Amana 3.4-Cubic Foot Traditional Top-Load Washer, NTW4501XQ, White Reviews

    1. This washer replaced a 6 year old Admiral machine we had been using. Thanks to Vine, I was able to give my old washer to a family in need and try this new Amana out. Turns out, we like this new washer a lot better than the old one, so it was well worth the trade-off. I've revamped this review as I have used the washer through about 10 loads now and these are my pros and cons for the washer. I have also adjusted my rating to reflect my experience with the machine.Pros: - Very quiet. Just a couple electronic sounds and some swishing at times. My washer is on the main floor and I can watch TV without even upping the volume. - Wrings clothes out extremely well, resulting in a decreased drying time. In our situation, the drying time was cut in half. For our purposes, it has decreased drying time from 120 minutes/load to 60 on high with an electric dryer. - LED lights show at a glance where the washer is in its cycle. - Lid lock keeps kids out of the washer, allows for a bit less rattling during the spin cycle.Cons: - Lid lock can only be released by pausing the machine. To get get the machine to restart you have to hit the button. If you accidentally hold it down, you will restart the load. To counteract this, you would have to go in manual mode and then hold down start. It is not so bad, but it is different from the normal operation you are used to. - Basin is deeper and more narrow than our old model. It holds the same amount of clothes, but it is also harder to get the clothes from the bottom of the machine. - Agitator is a little vicious and the increased spin cycle may wrap some clothes tangled right around the agitator. Suggest using the delicate cycle if you at all doubt that your clothes can handles the increased speed. The agitator feels a little rough in spots vs. my old Admiral which had a smoother plastic. - Drain hose is smaller than my previous model, is also a bit shorter than I am used to. I was skeptical of how this would affect performance, yet it does not seem to. The only reason I am mentioning this is you might need to extend the hose. Our discharge outlet is right there at the wall and the hose had to really stretch to get there. Not a con, but just a heads up - the washing machine pauses for a bit of time to sense the load. You might think you have a defective product if you do not know this prior to using the washer. Also not a con, but another heads up - if you buy this during the winter, make sure you let it come to room temperature before operating it. Our delivery team suggested 24 hours since it was VERY cold. The grease around the motor needs to warm up. If you don't do this you may damage the unit. This item is similarly priced in comparion to the Admiral it replaced. It is also similar is specs (both high capacity with same quality tub). The machine has performed well for me, so I have upgraded from 4 stars to 5. Both my husband and I love the machine and feel the Pros really outweigh the Cons. For a washer it seems a decent value, especially if you don't want one of those fancy front loading machines. I'd highly recommend the install service as well.

    2. This washer does a good enough job, and is quiet. The locking lid is unnecessary and waste detergent. The spin cycle is not so fast that it would cause the lid to open, i know this because i have watched the spin cycle and was able to lift the lid partially before the latch prevented it from fully opening. it waste detergent because now i have to rinse the detergent cup put in the sink or have it keep building up in the cup. This is the only major draw back of this machine and i will be disconnecting it when i finally get irritated enough to do it.

    3. This Amana top-load washer is a good washer. It has many good features:It has 3.4 cu. ft. of capacity which is great for a top-loader. I have a king size blanket/comforter that will fit in this washer which means no more trips to the laundromat! It automatically locks the lid at certain times so it can spin faster. This enables better cleaning and is a good safety feature as well. Since I have small children, I appreciate this feature. If you forget to put something in and need to put it in after the cycle has started, you just have to pause the wash to get the lid to unlock. It shows you on the front at which point you are in the cycle with a light. This is not a necessity but just a nice feature. A typical wash on Normal Heavy (which is what I typically use) takes about an hour and ten minutes, which is not too long.It has a gray interior basket so you can see socks in it - no more losing socks in the washer! There are only two things I dislike about this washer:The NOISE. During the wash cycle, this thing makes an awful loud creaking noise. It is much louder than our old washer. We have it in the garage so it is not too bad, but this washer might be really annoying if it were in the house. Also, I wish this washer had the option to add an additional rinse cycle at the the end of a wash. Most washers of this price do offer this option. It has a separate rinse and spin cycle which you could run manually after a normal cycle is over, but it would be really nice if you were able to have it run automatically if you choose.Overall, this is a very nice washer. I have washed multiple loads of adult clothes, toddler and baby clothes, towels, sheets, and a few delicates, and everything has come out nice and clean. The noise is really the biggest drawback which is the reason I could not give it five stars. But if your laundry area is in the garage or removed from your main living area, it probably wouldn't be much of an issue. So with that one caveat, I recommend this washer.

    4. Length:: 2:12 MinsThe Amana NTW4501XQ washer is a value entry in the washer market. While this model is low-cost "value" model it is still a very effective washer and offers all of the essentials.Notes -- Not super quiet but also not the loudest washer on the market- The agitator oscillates to help improve agitation and drying/water removal efficiency- Status indicator to show what stage the wash is in- 3 temperature settings - Cold - Warm - Hot -- Various settings for time and agitations settings- It is a top loader - and it includes a central agitator- 3.4 cubic feet of washing room- Seems to be well-built, especially for this price pointFinal Verdict - A nice, no thrills washer that is effective in washing your clothes without breaking the bank. If you looking for a highly customizable washer you likely will not be satisfied. You will be giving up some washing space due to the presence of the agitator. However, the Amana NTW4501XQ provides a nice effective washer at a low price.5 StarsFinal Verdict -

    5. This Amana is a traditional washing machine with an agitator. It's a 3.4 cu. Ft. and holds an average amount. It does a good job of getting the clothes clean. I've used a front-loader in the past but found them to be more prone to needing costly repairs than a traditional top-load washer like this. Sometimes we don't really need all those bells and whistles, we just need to get our clothes clean. This machine has a few special features. The machine has a locking lid which is okay with me. I have small children and like the safety aspect of it.The washer also checks for load balance so it spins and clicks a few times before it will start washing, sometimes this takes a couple of minutes. It also has a decent amount of options for your wash. Nothing too complicated. You can choose between a small, medium and large load. For wash temps: you have cold, warm and hot.For actual wash cycles, you can choose between normal, causal, and delicate, each one of those having having options too. You also have a light showing you at which stage your wash is at.It's a nice, average washer with a few extras. Does a nice job on clothes and that's the best part.

    6. I was a bit nervous about ordering something this big through the mail. What if it arrived dinged, dented or mutilated? What troubles would that create? I shouldn't have worried. It arrived in perfect condition. I connected it without any water leaks and turned the machine on.That's when the weirdness began. I'm a basic, simplicity-loving, low-tech kind of guy. So I had to fight back panic when I saw that this machine has a mind of its own. It seems to begin working when it pleases, and then it makes odd noises at odd times during the cycles. Not exactly how my old Maytag did things. Finally, when the machine decides everything is properly done, it unlocks the lid for clothes removal. While I'm not wild about the locking lid, it's proved to be no problem. Just punch a button, and the lid unlocks at any point in the entire process, although with a delay to allow the innards to positively stop moving.Despite its odd behavior and the accursed lid lock, I've come to really like this machine. For one thing, it has a technique for balancing the load before spinning, which of course minimizes the machine's tendency to do a mambo across the floor. Most importantly, it just does a good job of cleaning. I think this washer is great.
