Although Fulcrum may not have anticipated this use, they saved my life & sanity in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. When I bought them, I had intended to use them as extra light when doing garden work after dark as well as lights for my closet. After Hurricane Ike intruded on my life, I found several other uses for them. Living 100 mi. inland allows me a pretty good buffer from the wrath of hurricanes. (I went through both Betsy & Camille in New Orleans as a child. I chose to pass on any future front row seats as an adult.) Prior to Ike We'd not had more than 8-12 hrs. of pwr ourage from storms in my neck of the woods. Try two weeks of life without electricity, and we were some of the lucky ones! These lights were light enough to carry around in my pocket so that I always had one handy. Since I have to walk with a cane, carrying a flashlight left me no hands to carry anything else. When I walked outside after dark, they were lifesavers because there were no street lights. On the other hand there were lots and lots of downed trees to avoid as well as cars driving around at speeds that did not allow them to see far enough ahead to avoid hitting me or my dog.As far as durability, they may be made of plastic, but they survived being dropped no less than once a day. They hit hard enough to knock out the backing & the batteries. They lit up again as soon as I located & replaced the batteries, and there was not a single crack in any of the cases. The only defect was pre-Ike. One of the backs was missing 2 of the raised pieces that enabled it to lock onto the front. This caused only a minor inconvenience as I had to remember to hold the back in place if I chose to use it. The batteries stayed in place without the backing.
Out of 3 lights, I am sorry to say that only one worked correctly. One would not come one, and one would not go off once I got it on. Difficult to remove the cover on 2 of them to get to the batteries. I had high hopes, but this time, just no luck.
I bought these Fulcrum lights because they were a cheaper alternative to the Sylvania Dot-It lights, I could get 3 for a little more than the price of one Dot-It. So these are the pros and cons of the Fulcrums compared to the Sylvanias.Pros-----The Fulcrums look much the same as the Sylvanias.-Works the same; push down on the clear center area to turn on and off.-Light output seems the same, very good.-Unmarked, no words printed on front of the case.Cons-----More cheaply made, plastic instead of aluminum.-AAA batteries are NOT included. You need 3 for each light.-Adhesive on the back of the Dot-Its seemed better.By the way, don't stick the adhesive back sides of two of these lights together. They're VERY hard to get back apart...
I had wanted under cabinet kitchen lights, but didn't want to go through the expense or trouble of having electric based ones installed. These tap lights were the perfect solution! They give off a pleasing blue tint. Don't buy these lights expecting to light the kitchen on fire. They give off a light that is easy to see in the dark with, but the're definitely better used as mood lights. They are very easy to install, and a simple twist of the silver dome and you can change the batteries leaving the sticky base intact against the cabinet. They are better at sticking under cabinets, as I didn't have much sucess on other types of surfaces. I would advise buying rechargeable batteries and enjoying this simple kitchen upgrade for years to come.
I have a HUGE network of shelving and closets throughout my house, as well as tons of display shelves. When I first bought these, I intended them for seemingly the universal usage that is a pre-requisite, and that is to light up my closets. LOL But the very first day I got these and felt for myself how light weight and bright they are, I decided to start buying them for the nicest of my collector shelves. I display quite a few statues and collectibles, but sometimes, depending on the when and the where they are, the shelves just don't get enough light. Enter these bad boys, and that problem is SOLVED. I stick one of these to the underside of the shelf I want to illuminate, and it's bright enough to light up the entire inner box of the shelf, and everything on it too. There are other brands, and they all work honestly. Some are larger, some more expensive, some a tad brighter. I like these because they are the perfect balance between cost and functionality. I get three for less than ten dollars, and you will be AMAZED at how long they last. I have recently purchased more, as more of my shelves needed lighting. I am pleased to report that my old lights are still every bit as bright as the new ones, and that is after YEARS. I have NEVER had one lose power from the bulb going bad, though sometimes I have to replace the triple A batteries. They are more than bright enough to read by, or to navigate a completely dark house for that matter. I buy the tiny key chains of these as well for friends and family, and they work like a charm. (Super Bright LED Keychain Flashlight) Flat out bottom line, these things do JUST what they say they will, and that's all I ever expect from my products. Give them a try, and I know you won't be disappointed. Thanks so much for your time folks. Sincerely, R.A. McDowell
The cons: like all such cheap battery-powered LED lights, these things emit weak light, and the light is quite blue (far bluer even than fluorescent). The pros: unlike most other cheap battery-powered LED lights, the LEDs on this one really cast a WIDE beam -- not your typical LED super-narrow pin-prick beam of illumination.Because of that, and the low price (roughly $9 for a three-pack), I give these things five stars. For the price, these things are great.
i used these lights under a cupboard just above the kitchen sink. they work really well and the adhesives seem to hold firmly (to wood). i tried to attach one to concrete but it fell down but that might be due to high humidity. great for low budget DIY type home improvements. Good value for money.
