The reel started out great, but then quickly stops retracting all the time. As another review stated, the hose gets tangled up and one must carfully feed the hose back in order to avoid the tangle. Also, it requires several hard tugs before the retraction even starts. Frustrating at best. I advise to give this one a miss.
I ABSOLUTELY REGRET THIS PURCHASE. IT DOES NOTHING BUT HOLDING YOUR HOSE IN PLACE. NO "SELF" RETRACTING....AT ALL!!! DON'T BUY THIS.
There was only one review available when I bought this hose reel and it was completely negative. I bought one and tried it out and it works great. When the hose is fully extended it will still reel the hose back in with out any fooling around. I have since bought another one and it works just as well. The first reviewer must not have understood how to use the reel. It would be better if it had 100 feet of hose!
This product does NOT work as described. It no longer retracts.After owning this product for a little over a year now, it simply stopped working.It is made from cheap plastic parts so it is not surprising that it broke.The most frustrating part is that it is an enclosed housing unit, therefore there is no way to get the hose back in the housing unit.This product is a waste of money and based on the other bad reviews addressing the same problem, STAY AWAY!
We purchased this item about a year ago. It was a major pain. You have to feed it in carefully or it will just tangle inside and jam. Also it has to be at least 80 degrees out or the crummy plastic hose will not flex and therefore will not wind. Each use was just an irritating experience. It would have been easier to just wind it up manually. It broke a few days ago and I cannot wait to throw it in the trash where it belongs.The Hozelock I purchased years ago at Costco worked like a charm for 6 0r 7 years. I searched high and low but could not find another. Then I found Amazon UK, logged in and made the purchase for 118.00 usd including express shipping. I'm confident it will be worth every penny.
I am surprised at these poor reviews. I have purchased two of these reels and I love them. They never fail to retract. They aren't fast like a vacuum cleaner cord retractor, but they most definitely pull the hose all the way back in. If the hose is fully extended, you might have to give it another little pull midway through the retraction, or if it gets caught up on a bush or something else, you might have to give it another little pull, but it beats the heck out of winding and winding and winding. Also, you need to pull the hose out before you turn the water on and turn the water off before you retract, letting the water go out of the hose. Otherwise, there is pressure built up in the hose and it's hard (or impossible) for the retractor to work properly. If you know how to use this reel, it's great. I've had mine operating perfectly for more than three years. It would be nice to get a slightly longer hose, however.
