Norton premium white aluminum oxide bench and pedestal wheels provide maximum cut rate and cool cutting action on hardened or high-speed tool steels and other metals. Bench and pedestal wheels are used for offhand deburring and sharpening of parts and tools. Arbor bushings to 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8". Specification: Fine 60. All bench and pedestal wheels must be dressed to prevent loading. Loading can cause excessive heat, damage to the workpiece and wheel breakage. Dressing exposes new cutting edges and provides chip clearance. Do not grind wood, plastic or any other non-metallic material on a bench or pedestal grinder. Unsecured machines can move, causing grinding breakage and injury. Fixed-base bench and pedestal grinders must be secured.

I recently purchased two of these grinding wheels and quickly came to the same conclusion that a lot of other people have: Norton bushings are a joke; which renders the wheels virtually useless. With these wheels, my grinder vibrates so badly that I'm afraid to use it. I'm trying different things to try to salvage them, without success so far. I'm afraid that I'm going to have to toss them and buy wheels made by anyone but Norton. (I need to add that I bought my wheels from a source other than Amazon.)
I ordered this and the shipment arrived with the wheel loose in a much larger box along with 3 loose lathe supports - heavy steel T-shaped bars - from a different order, by the way. Not surprisingly, the wheel was unusably chipped. I returned the item for replacement.The replacement shipment was in a rectangular cardboard book box, allowing the wheel to shift in the box, and with zero padding. Again, a chip, but smaller.I am a bit frustrated, since I had left a comment about the problem with the first shipment.These wheels are fragile and need better protection.
Bought this wheel for sharpening tool steel. My grinder has a 5/8" shaft. Measured with a micrometer at .625. Used the supplied bushings to install the wheel. The wheel vibrated a lot. Checked the play and found that the wheel would move quite a lot. had to apply tape on the bushings to remove slop. After diamond dressing the wheel the excess vibration was gone but the wheel wiggled back and forth as it turned. I have propper flanges installed and have tried rotating them ect. Installed the old wheel to make sure it wasn't me-- it ran true. Could be I just got a bad wheel but I don't know.
The online description and actual product carton both advertise that 0.5 inch bushings are included. They are not.I ordered a couple different grits of Norton grinding wheels a few months back. Same story with each.The manufacturer obviously shipped defective/mislabeled product into the distribution chain. This much is clear because the sticker on the grinding wheel itself makes reference only to 7/8", 3/4", and 5/8" bushings.I'd like to work right now, but where am I supposed to find a bushing at 2200 on a Saturday? Should I waste time to make one?The manufacturer of this product has tens of billions of euros in annual revenue and hundreds of thousands of employees. With such resources at their disposal, one wonders what excuse they could possibly have? The idea that I should have to clean up after their collective incompetence? Doom on them.Perhaps someone will have remedied this oversight before you order your abrasive wheel. But how will you know? If at all possible, avoid Norton (Saint-Gobain) products.This sort of thing shakes confidence in the Amazon marketplace. Amazon should get to the root of the problem: find Norton (Saint-Gobain) executives and give them tribulations.
I originally had some trouble with this wheel. Chuck from Wood Tech gave me a call when he saw my review and offered to make things right. He has done that. This company sent me a new wheel with a different style bushing and it helped solve my problem with the original. Kudos to Chuck and Wood Tech Tooling for their stellar customer cervice.I am updating this review in recognition of a call from Chuck, from Woodtek. He assured me that this was a Norton wheel and that they are labeled as 'Packard Woodworking'. He also agreed to send me a new wheel to try and fix the problem. In view of such great response, I am confident that this company stands behind its products. This call was not solicited. I was surprised by the concern he had to make it right. We will see if the new wheel solves my problem, but the customer service is excellent in my book.Original reviewThis wheel says something about Packard Woodworking on label. It's not well balanced, it wobbles excessively. The hub is 1 1/4" not the stated 1" and the cheap plastic 1 1/4" to 5/8" bushing is a sloppy fit. I wrapped a layer of blue painters tape around the bushing and it still slid right into the hub.Poor product,,,false advertising. Don't buy this wheel.
As others have said, you can not put this wheel on your grinder and use it. I spent over an hour making the wheel run true and get the vibration down to a minimum. When I first put on the Norton wheel, my grinder almost jumped off the bench. Using some washers and even duck tape (as a spacer and balancer) I was able to get the wheel to turn fairly true and had minimal vibration.After the above was completed, I was happy with the performance of the Norton 100 grit wheel.
Wheel quality is good. However if your grinders arbor is not the size of the actual hole in the wheel - forget it. Norton has always been sloppy with their bushings. My wheels wobble in-and-out so bad it is difficult to get a good grind on tools. Cheap plastic bushings and the whole wheel becomes garbage. I only buy Norton products when I have absolutely no other choices.
