Evolve Showerheads SS-1002CP-US Ladybug Water-Saving Shower-Head Adapter, Chrome Polish Reviews

    1. Simply put, it works. It also seems a little magical. How can a little mechanical device stop the water flow when the water gets hot enough? No idea, but it does it.Attaching this to our shower was easy - just a little plumber's tape gave it a snug, water-tight fit.Conceptually at first, it was hard to figure out how to use the thing. Was it on a timer? Could we adjust the threshold for what it thinks is 'hot?' The answer to both of these questions is no. If you just turn your shower to 'warm' the Evolve Showerhead Adapter won't shut the flow off. Its threshold for what it considers 'hot' might be warmer than you expect. It's not set to wait for the water to be scaldingly hot by any means, but the first time I tested it after I installed it, I thought it was broken when actually I just hadn't given it enough hot water. When it hits the threshold for heat, it cuts the flow of the shower back to a trickle. It's very clear even if you're not looking at it that it's done so, because the sound of the water flow clearly changes. Remember, it doesn't stop the water, it just slows it way down. Once you're in the shower, just pull the attached cord and water flow resumes to normal. Pretty simple.I found one quirk: our shower has 2 showerheads (fed from 1 common control panel), and we attached this adapter to only one of them. Sometimes the Evolve Showerhead Adapter gets confused if the water pressure changes drastically - like if we turn the 2nd showerhead on. When that happens, sometimes the adapter cuts off the water as if it just tripped its heat threshold, but pulling the cord won't restore the flow. The only fix is to turn the water to that showerhead off and then back on. Not a big deal, but it happens. I've never had the adapter cut off the flow for no good reason however. Now that we're used to the quirks of the adapter, it's part of our routine.Ultimately, you have to wonder, how long does it take to pay for itself? I really have no idea. I don't feel like this adapter has revolutionized our water bill. I have to imagine that, long term, it's worth it, but I didn't see any noticeable reduction in my water or gas bill the month after the adapter was installed. But if you're going to buy this, it's probably not the only thing you're doing to reduce your impact on the environment, right? Hopefully this is just one of many things you do, and I do believe that it helps.I recommend that people buy this for any shower they use on a daily basis - but I don't think it would be worth it to install one on every showerhead in your house (if you have more than one, of course) if they're not all regularly used.Final notes: it's nicely manufactured. We got the chrome adapter and it's a nice, simple, smooth, industrial piece of metal that feels solid. I have no fear that it's about to break or spring a leak. When you install it, it adds an inch or two to the length of the feeder pipe, so depending on the angle of the pipe that feeds your showerhead, expect that your showerhead will extend a little lower or higher or further than before (which may be a good or bad thing depending on your situation). Finally, if you have guests use your shower, don't forget to tell them how it works!

    2. I was initially disappointed that the Evolve shower-head adapter did not fit into my WaterPic massage shower head. I was expecting a battle with Evolve based upon my only too frequent experience with other companies. Instead, I was delighted to receive a prompt response from an Evolve employee who provided me with a quick and easy solution (i.e. remove the filter in the WaterPic shower head...Evolve has its own). The product works as intended shutting off the stream of water once the water temperature gets hot. When you are ready to get into the shower, you simply pull the cord to restore water flow. It takes quite a while for hot water to reach my upstairs shower. Before installing the Evolve Showerhead adapter, I wasted water and gas (heating water). The cost savings afforded by this device will easily pay back my initial investment.

    3. This think does what it is supposed to do. You don't have to stand naked testing the water every few seconds to determine if it is warm enough to get in. Just turn the water on and walk away. When the water reaches 95 degrees, it reduces the flow to a trickle. I can hear the water stop flowing in another room. Then I pull the cord and the water flows just like normal. You will save a lot of water and the money it takes to heat it without any effort. These things should be required by law. My only complaint is the cost but it has more than paid for itself in water and energy savings in the year I have had it.

    4. While I live in a relatively warm California, there are mornings where I've turned on the hot shower then gone and brushed my teeth and things to let the shower really warm up. Was I being water smart? Nope. Was the shower nice and steamy...absolutely.But, California is a desert and our utility companies have asked us to reduce our water consumption by 30%. I have two showers, one in the master bedroom, one that my roommate uses. So, I got the Ladybug valve for the master bedroom (I loved my low flow hand-held showerhead already) and I got a combination hand-held shower head and ladybug valve from evolve. Both in brushed nickel. So, I had to explain to my roommate, turn on the hot water for the shower....and when it hits the right temp, it'll slow to a trickle...then you just jump in and pull the cord. Water flows again. So, I installed the showerhead + valve in her shower, and the valve in mine, and sure enough, it just works. The good news is, our water bill went down 15% just like that, not to mention our gas bill. Plus, you can hear the water slow down to a trickle, so, you know you can finish with your teeth and jump right in.Now, it's not a "burn preventer". So, be careful when you pull the cord, the water is hot, I tell my roommate to adjust the water temp to where you normally have it before pulling the cord....aim the showerhead away from you...then pull the cord and ease into it.But it just works. I'm no longer wasting hot water and the shower isn't all that cold when I get into it (it warms up enough as the water was running and warming up).In all, it's a simple product and it's helped me to reduced my water consumption. Now, I just need to add low flow aerators to all the sinks...I can't recommend the evolve products enough...check out their "Emperor" showerheads w/ the ladybug valves, you get a low flow showerhead and the water saver valve in one package!

    5. Con: 1) the teflon tape that comes with the fitting is way below par. Use your own hw store brand. 2) Male threads need a large amount of teflon tape to be snug. I still see an occasional bead of water form around the threads.Pros: It does exactly what it says it should do. My wife was skeptical at first (don't mess with her shower routine). But after 1 day, she is a believer. You can turn it on and do something else for a few minutes not worrying about losing hot water. When you're ready, pull the release valve and the water is ready to stand under. GREAT DEVICE!thoughts: I should probably have gotten the full all-in-one unit and saved the minor frustration of putting my head onto this device. But it seems to be working fine.

    6. This is one of the best products that I've seen to save time and money. Our water heater is on the other side of the house and it takes a long time for the hot water to reach the shower on the second floor. I use to have to check the water constantly to see if it was ready to use. Now, I can turn on the water and get other taks done while i wait for the shower to shut down to a trickle. I had it at my last house and I bought two for my new house. You will also save on you water and sewage bill as well. I would give this product 10 stars if I could.

    7. This winter I replaced two showerheads with the water-saving variety. But they didn't do anything about shutting down flow once the showerhead warmed up. Which was an issue: our kids would walk away while the shower warmed up (water heater is down in the basement), and five minutes later remember that the water still was running. So the Ladybug has been an easy fix to that. I just unscrewed the showerhead, screwed on the Ladybug into it (used plumber's tape) to create a super showerhead, and then screwed that back onto the pipe coming out of the wall. No water leakage. As long as we start the shower with the dial set to anywhere from pretty warm to hot (shower should initially be set to hot to save water while heating up), the adapter will do its job and turn water flow to a trickle once the water has warmed up. Our kids haven't had any issues with it. We worried when buying our first adapter that our third grader would have to stand on his toes to grab the water release line, but turns out it's quite reachable.Call me a kook, but I can't say enough about how great it is that the shower is warm whenever I step into it, and I get to save power and water in the process.

    8. I purchased this device because it takes forever for my shower to heat up in my apt building. When the shower did finally heat up (and who knows when that would happen), my tiny bathroom was full of steam and tons of hot water was just wasted. After I added this, I knew exactly when the hot water was ready, as the shower would just trickle some water. It's great. Highly recommended!

    9. This product was very easy to install. The hardware feels solid and sturdy.Worked just as advertised.Good price & over time it pays for itself.Great for the environment.Very good product!

    10. This thing works. My shower is 2 floors above the water heater so it takes a long time for the water to heat up. While it might reduce the water bill enough to ever pay for itself, it's worth it just so I don't have to stand there cold and naked constantly testing the temperature.
