I've always been a Hunter fan (gosh that's funny!), and wanted to spend a little more on their Original Classic. I am glad I did. Every part of the fan is of higher quality. The blades have real wood veneer on each side (walnut and oak); not the wood look vinyl. The motor housing is cast iron (over 40 pounds! be careful) and uses oil (tube include) to continuously bathe the ball bearings and circulates to other vital areas. Hence, this fan comes with a lifetime warranty. They say the oil should never have to be replaced or added to, but the level should be checked every 5 years. They kept the old Classic look and design but improved the efficiency. It has an Energy Star rating and is the most efficient model I've ever owned (I have 2 other new Hunter fans which are not as efficient; still good though). The efficiency ratings are shown on the outside top of the box. It's a great fan.
Hunter Original Classic ceiling fan. Just got off the phone with Hunter tech support. The answer to the e-mail I sent them suggested I take my fan to a local "authorized dealer" or call a 1-888 #. I called the # and waited 10 mins. for a real person. The real person was a pleasant young lady who transferred me back to the beginning of the wait cycle. Bottom line; there is no tech support. Just a minimum wage body asking you for your model #. The hint was; "take it to a local authorized dealer". My Taiwan made "Hunter Original Classic" dripped oil on the carpet. Nice heavy quality product. I took it apart and found that the oil seal between the rotor and the oil reservoir has a gap of approx. 3/32". No wear, seal looks new, and no circular mark in the paint of the oil reservoir. I wanted to know if they recommend an upgrade of the seal. If somehow the original seal was not specified correctly or not installed according to specs.... crickets chirping... "Classic" American success story. Executives and stock holders have sucked the company dry. Leaving a skeleton crew to market and support Pacific rim products. It is still a decent product, but understand, after your purchase, you are on your own.
Pros:The Hunter Original is the finest fan I have ever owned. I installed five of them in my home in 1979 and have had to add oil to three of them after 20+ years of use. Two of those fans are "on" almost 24/7. The "Original" is the only fan I would ever purchase. I also installed four of them in a second residence. Well worth the extra cost if you plan to live with the "Original" for more than ten years.Cons: None
Whenever I go to retaurants such as UNO or other bar-like retaurants, they almost always have these fans there. They are high quality air circulators and create a powerful wind chill effect. Even on it's low setting it has very high and comfortable air flow. This has got to be the most popular of the Hunter Original fan series because this fan has a style that everyone would love. Even someone like myself who usually likes the seashell transitional style (take the Casablanca Capistrano ceiling fan for example) to the modern comtemporary style of ceiling fans. Sure, I would absoltely agree that these cast iron fans are the workhorse's of all ceiling fans, but I have never owned one. However, beware, for these fans are very heavy at 43.5 pounds. The blades look much thicker in person than in the generic photographs of this fan and generate a lot of air. If you are looking for a very classic old fashioned ceiling fan in a stylish manner that everyone would like, this is the perfect fan to buy.
It's been a long time since I purchased this but my review should be worth it. Pros: Everything. It's quiet, looks great and moves the air has hoped. Cast iron looks great in the bedroom and we liked it so much we purchased another for living room. Cons: Nothing except make sure that you have ample support for it as it is heavy. But being heavy makes it quiet, so really, this isn't a con. Just a small warning.
We recently moved into a new state/house and were dismayed to see that the primary ceiling fan was on it's last legs.(Not a Hunter!!)With the summer heat arriving soon, we ordered the best fan out there, A Hunter Original Classic. It arrived quickly and after some trouble getting the old one down, we were soon standing under a wonderful breeze from our new Hunter Fan. We have installed over 10 ceiling fans in less than 10 years ,in every home that we have lived in. We either have the installation down to a science, or Hunter makes it easy. It took us less than 1 hour to install the new one,and 1 hour to get the old one off the ceiling. We love Hunter Ceiling Fans!!
This fan will blow your wig off!I was very excited the first time I cranked this one up during the 100 degree weather this summer.Hunter has the quality that no one else can match.
I've installed two of these fans in my home, one in the living room and one in the master bedroom. Both have been in use for over 5 years and work flawlessly. If you've been around other fans, these are no comparison at all. The Hunter Classic Original is large, slow, and move LOTS of air, but is almost silent. Instead of the whipping sound and high gusts of air in small areas you get from other fans, this fan will wash a room in a quiet, consistent breeze. Perfect for the bedroom, as you don't have to listen to the drone of the fan all night.I would never even look at another brand or model of fan after having these in my home. The heavy cast iron motor for this fan is a chore to install. If you're not a strong guy, enlist some help, it's a lot of weight to get over your head.
I have seven Original fans that are 28 years old that have never had a problem, not even reoiling.........These were all made in the USA. I purchased 2 more Original's 5 years ago that have been outside under a porch. They were not made in the USA. The blades are no longer made of pecan wood but have not had any problems. The fan I just purchased has been added to the porch. I do not expect any problems. I know Hunter now makes an all weather fan with teak blades at a much higher cost. I have not had the new style blades to warp like the less expensive fan blades do.
These Hunter fans are very heavy built and are very, very quiet in operation and move a lot of air at slow speeds which most less expensive fans can not do. The looks of the fan are also very good. I have owned Hunter Fans that have lasted over 20 years. I wish they still made this fan in the USA.
