We bought three of these lights for our house (not from Amazon). We were stoked that they are energy savers and supposedly good for the environment. After several years of use the first light went out. We purchased several expensive replacement bulbs. Unfortunately it isn't the light bulbs that go bad on these lights, its the ballasts! All three of the ones we bought went out because of a bad ballast that blew the bulb. And guess what! The ballasts cost more than the light, around $45 once you account for shipping. We contacted Good Earth Lighting and got a pretty uninterested reply from them. Bottom line they wont stand by their product even though we have three lights that prove them to have a defective product.
This is a fine light. I ordered 2, then 2 more, and I'm ordering another 2 now. They're cheap and look good. My only complaint is that the single bulb is dim, even with the highest dimmable GU24 in it. In the two rooms that I want these lights brighter, I installed a second GU24 base easily (the extra bases were under $2, each)Regarding the other reviewer's complaints:It is set off the ceiling a bit. But only an inch and a half, tops... not 3.There is no ballast (or any other parts to break) in these. The only part in these are the bases, which are under $2.
The picture of this ceiling light is very deceiving. It looks like the base of the lamp is flush with the ceiling, which was the sleek look that I was after. But it is not. There is an additional base depth of about 3 inches of a smaller diameter that the pic does not show. When installed, the large round base is actually "hanging" 3 inches from the ceiling. While the quality and finish seem fine, this lamp seems over-priced. IKEA sells one that looks very much like it at under $10, that DOESN'T use a specialty bulb (read expensive).
